Seiya Taguchi is a Japanese-Australian photographer based in Sydney, shooting key art, commercial and editorial.
Over fifteen years he has shot campaign work for Spotify, Woolworths, Audible and Suntory, and key art for Netflix, Black Bear Pictures, Amazon Prime and the ABC, including posters for Heartbreak High, Apple Cider Vinegar and Spa Weekend. He shoots for Nikon Australia and teaches for Nikon School.
He started his career in graphic design before moving into photography, and at a theatre company he did both at once, shooting the performances and designing all the marketing that came out of them. That grounding taught him to shoot for a result: to leave room in the frame for a title and a crop, and to read a performance so he can anticipate the moment before it happens.
Whether it’s a finessed studio setup or run-and-gun alongside a TVC unit, the job is the same: get a performance out of whoever is in front of him, a seasoned actor or someone who’s never been photographed before, and come back with the frame everything else is built on.
